This policy explains what data is involved when you use NelcByte Tools, where it goes and what choices you have.
1. Who we are
NelcByte Tools is operated by NelcByte, a hosting and digital solutions company registered in Zimbabwe. This policy covers tools.nelcbyte.com only. It does not cover nelcbyte.com or any other NelcByte service.
For privacy questions or requests, email dev@nelcbyte.com.
2. The short version
- Most tools run entirely in your browser. We do not receive the text, JSON, images, passwords, UUIDs, dates or other values you enter.
- The DNS Checker is the exception: it sends the domain and record type directly to Cloudflare's public DNS service. NelcByte does not receive that query.
- There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising scripts at launch.
- The site stores your light or dark theme preference in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device.
- NelcByte hosts this site, so our servers may keep standard request logs for security, troubleshooting and uptime checks.
- If you email us, we receive your email address and message so we can reply.
3. Data processed in your browser
Most tools process input with JavaScript running in your browser. For example, the password generator uses your browser's cryptographic random source, the JSON formatter uses the browser's JSON parser, and the image compressor redraws the selected image on a canvas. That input is not sent to NelcByte.
The site does not save your input or keep a history of your use. Your browser may restore form values when you refresh, depending on its settings.
DNS lookups
Browsers cannot make raw DNS queries, so the DNS Checker asks Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS service for the records you request. The request includes the domain name and record type, and Cloudflare also receives standard network information such as your IP address and the time of the request. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy.
NelcByte does not receive or log the DNS query. Our server logs record requests to tools.nelcbyte.com; they do not include the separate request your browser makes to Cloudflare.
4. Local storage
The site stores one preference in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light or dark theme. This is not a cookie, and it is not sent to our server. You can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.
5. Server logs
NelcByte hosts this site, and our web servers may automatically record standard request information when a page is loaded. This can include your IP address, browser type, the requested URL, the date and time, and the referring page.
We use this information for security, troubleshooting and uptime monitoring. It is not used to build a profile of you. Logs are kept only as long as needed for those purposes and to meet our operational requirements.
6. Cookies, analytics and advertising
At launch, NelcByte Tools does not set cookies, does not use analytics and does not load advertising scripts. There are no tracking pixels or third-party marketing tags.
If advertising or analytics is added later, this policy will be updated before those tools are enabled. Where required, we will ask for consent before setting non-essential cookies or loading personalised advertising.
7. Email
If you email us, we receive your email address, any name you provide and the contents of your message. We use that information to reply and to keep a record of the conversation where needed. We do not add you to a marketing list.
Please do not send passwords, private keys or sensitive personal data by email.
8. Legal basis and your rights
We handle personal data in line with Zimbabwe's Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 08:05). Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data.
To make a request, email dev@nelcbyte.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), which oversees data protection in Zimbabwe.
9. Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We may share limited information with providers that support our network, security or email services, or where we are required to do so by law. Those providers are expected to handle data appropriately and only for the service they provide.
The DNS Checker is separate from that arrangement. Cloudflare's DNS service is an independent third party: your browser contacts it directly, and we do not receive the query. Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs its handling of the request.
10. International transfers
Our servers and email providers may process data outside Zimbabwe. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards. Cloudflare operates a global network, so a DNS lookup may be handled outside your country or Zimbabwe. By using the site, you understand that data may be processed in another country.
11. Security
We use HTTPS, keep the site software minimal and collect as little as possible. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you believe there is a security problem, please email us so we can investigate.
12. Children
NelcByte Tools is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy when the site changes. The effective date at the top will change, and the latest version will always be on this page. If a change is significant, we will make that clear on the site.
